A Study of the Charitable Bequest Intention of Baby Boomers

Abstract
Paying attention to social and economic influence of the baby boomers in South Korean society, this study focuses on analyzing the factors that influence on their charitable bequest intention. To achieve the research goals, this study utilized the data from ¡¸Survey on the understanding of the public about donation(Giving Korea)¡¹. The survey data covers from 2006 to 2015, and this study only used the extracted data of baby boomer(born between 1955~1963) from the pooled data from year 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014 which were conducted on individuals. For the examination, this study used Tobit Regression to analyze the results, and the results show that experience of charitable giving(+), religiosity(+), present philanthropic effort(+) and volunteer time(+) have significant effects on the level of charitable bequest intention. Furthermore, age and religion also have significant effects on charitable bequest intention. This study have theoretical and practical meaning in that it contributes to extend the understanding of charitable bequest which will take big part of donation culture in South Korea, and it suggests the direction of strategies for promoting charitable bequest of baby boomer
